Hi, my name is Philipp and you are reading the first post on my new blog. I am a earth observation enthusiast and remote sensing nerd, based in Berlin (like almost everyone else nowadays).

Background

I have a background in forestry and geo-information science and analyzed arid forest ecosystems with remote sensing tools for some years during my PhD.

My scientific focus revolved around remote sensing guided trend shift detection and forest disturbance analysis of degraded forest ecosystems especially in arid environments. I used multi-sensor and multi-scale approaches to characterize changes and to answer questions of when, where and why.

On this site, I am going to write about topics of (hopefully) broader interest. I try to use the Google Earth Engine with its multi-petabyte catalog of satellite imagery and geospatial datasets with planetary-scale analysis capabilities, whenever possible.
